Manchester United are set to add sports psychologist, Sascha Lense, and assistant coach, Chris Armas, to Ralf Rangnick’s backroom staff over the coming days.
Technical director Darren Fletcher and first-team coach Kieran McKenna were on hand to assist Rangnick as the German got his reign as interim boss off to a winning start against Crystal Palace.
Rangnick had attempted to convince Michael Carrick to stay, but the ex-United and England midfielder – who had been in charge as caretaker manager at Old Trafford – stepped down in the wake of the side’s victory over Arsenal.
Carrick’s departure left a void which Rangnick has been keen to fill as quickly as possible and the 63-year-old will be joined in Manchester by two trusted former colleagues from his time with the Red Bull football group.
Rangnick hopes Lense, and Armas are able to get the necessary paperwork over the line in time for the Red Devils’ trip to Norwich this weekend.
Asked whether he’s in the process of bringing in any personnel ahead of United’s Champions League clash with Young Boys, Rangnick replied: ‘It won’t be that many.
‘I’m very happy to work with the staff I met last week and they gave me a lot of help in the last couple of days in preparation for the Crystal Palace game.
‘We have decided to bring in a sports psychologist with Sascha Lense, he is from Germany.
‘He is a former second division player and I have worked with him for three years at Leipzig.
‘One year in the year that we won promotion from the second to the first decision myself and in the following two years when Ralph Hasenhuttl was head coach and Zsolt Low – the current assistant coach of Thomas Tuchel – was his assistant coach.
