Alexander Zverev takes picture, gets warning and wins!

Alexander Zverev is through to the last 32 at the Madrid Masters. The former champion ousted Alejandro Davidovich Fokina 2-6, 7-6, 7-6 in two hours and 44 minutes. The German overcame a slow start and took the pivotal points of sets two and three.

Alexander denied two break points in the ninth game of the second set and embraced an encounter against the electronic line call in the next one! Alejandro’s ball landed clearly long, and the electronic call did not react. 

Zverev lost his temper, took his phone and took a picture of a questionable call. Mohamed Lahyani could not do anything about it, and he gave the German a code violation warning. Alexander kept his composure and clinched the set in the tie break before prevailing in the decider.

Davidovich Fokina gave everything in front of the home fans. He dominated the opener and finished the duel with two points more than world no. 2. The Spaniard pulled a late break back in the final set before dropping the tie break 7-0 to hit the exit door.

Alexander hit 24 winners and 28 unforced errors. Davidovich Fokina embraced a 32-45 ratio, attacking but spraying too many mistakes from both wings. Zverev forged the lead from the baseline, and his rival erased it at the net. 

The German landed ten service winners more and outplayed his rival behind the second serve. Alexander suffered four breaks and provided only two breaks from 11 opportunities. However, it was enough to stay in touch after the opener and prevail.
