Former World No.1 Simona Halep has become only the third WTA player in tennis history to exceed $40 million in career earnings, joining Serena Williams and Venus Williams. Following Halep’s win in Toronto, she now has $40,107,097 in career earnings of her own.

Additionally, Halep is the eighth tennis player to exceed $40 million in career earnings for her. The big three – Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic – have earned more than $100 million in their careers. Serena is fourth on the list with $94,606,355, while her sister Venus is seventh with $42,300,728.

Andy Murray and Pete Sampras are fifth and sixth, respectively. Halep may not break Serena’s record, but she has a real chance of surpassing Venus and someday becoming the second player on the WTA money list in her career.

On Sunday, Halep defeated Beatriz Haddad Maia 6-3 2-6 6-3 to win her third National Bank Open title. In clinching the Toronto title, Halep also cashed a check for $439,700. “It’s never easy to play against [Haddad Maia],” said Halep after beating Haddad Maia.
