ATP legend has only one concern about Carlos Alcaraz’s off-season

[ad_1]

Carlos Alcaraz has been practicing with great energy and intensity in recent weeks at the academy of his coach Juan Carlos Ferrero. As in previous years, the former world number 1 has decided not to play official tournaments before the Australian Open.

The Happy Slam is the only Major tournament that the young Spaniard has never won and the prospect of triumphing at Melbourne Park fills him with huge motivations. The current world number 3 reached the quarterfinals at the AO in 2024, losing to German Alexander Zverev in a match characterized by too many ups and downs.

The German champion overtook him in second place in the ATP ranking in the last tournaments of last season, creating the risk that Alcaraz could face Jannik Sinner already in the semifinals in Melbourne. The two young champions have equally shared the four Grand Slam titles in 2024 and will also be the benchmarks in 2025, being able to reach peaks much higher than all their opponents.

Carlos’ 2024 has been somewhat overshadowed by Jannik’s achievements, who have been virtually unstoppable over the past twelve months. However, the 21-year-old from Murcia won the French Open and the Wimbledon Championships while also triumphing in Indian Wells for the second year in a row.

The 4-time Grand Slam champion will follow a different schedule in 2025, prioritizing tournaments on hard courts immediately after the AOs. Carlitos will not play tournaments on red clay in South America as he has done in recent seasons, but he will participate in the ATP 500 in Rotterdam and Doha in February.

The Spanish ace played a couple of exhibition matches in the United States before starting training in Spain, a choice that generated discussions among fans and insiders. Some argue that Alcaraz should have avoided these distractions and focused on the new season right away.
