Roxanne Perez Shares Wisdom from WWE Legends

WWE NXT Women’s Champion Roxanne Perez is making waves in her second reign as champion. In addition to dominating the NXT brand, she has been inspired by her two WWE heroes: CM Punk and AJ Lee. In a recent interview, Perez shared some thoughts about how CM Punk has influenced the NXT locker room.

She described his presence as “awesome”. Her admiration for him goes way back. Punk would make occasional backstage cameos during NXT events, and Perez noted his commitment to assisting the current roster. “Super cool for all of us,” Perez told Stephanie Chase during an interview.

“I watched that guy grow up from a little kid. I watched him walk into this business, wanting to be in my shoes one day”. Oh man, being able to be under his learning tree, too, is fucking awesome. Don’t get me wrong; he doesn’t have to do all of this shit he does; literally, just drop by the NXT pay-per-views where he was at Las Vegas Battleground just watching our matches”.

Perez went on to explain that there is more than meets the eye when it comes to Punk’s involvement with them. “It’s really cool for him going out of his way like that to help us out.

He’s always there if we need critiques, advice, or anything, so yeah, it’s been really cool learning from him,” she said. Perez turned away from talking about CM Punk and began speaking about AJ Lee instead, who she met for the first time at 13 years old at an event featuring former WWE stars.

This led to many moments when Lee was seen as different from other women competing especially in the Divas Era according to Perez herself. The wrestler narrated how seeing what Lee had done made her believe that she could do it too.

“I was a little four-foot-nothing tomboy Latina,” admits Perez. ”Some of those girls were so impressive, but I thought I could never do that because I couldn’t see myself in any of them. AJ Lee was the exception; not only was she a wrestler, she was also…
