Thomas Tuchel was unhappy with two questions asked at his post-match press conference following Chelsea’s defeat to Manchester City which leaves the Blues 13 points adrift of the Premier League leaders.
The west Londoners went to the Etihad on Saturday knowing defeat would likely end their hopes of claiming the title this season and in a tight and cagey match were undone by an excellent second-half strike from Kevin De Bruyne to secure a 1-0 victory for the hosts.
Chelsea remain in second place in the table – though Liverpool could go five points above them if they win their games in hand – but Tuchel was not happy with suggestions that the Blues are no longer competing against Jurgen Klopp’s side.
Asked if Chelsea are now in a race just to secure a top-four finish, rather than competing with Manchester City and Liverpool for the title, Tuchel snapped back: ‘Why should we not look to Liverpool?
‘I mean, why should we look anyway? I mean, if you listen carefully to everything that we’ve said, the only thing where we look is us and the only thing where I look is Tuesday [against Brighton] because funnily enough we play Tuesday when the next game is Sunday, so we need to be ready on Tuesday.
‘I have no time to lose my energy looking at the fixtures or the table. I don’t understand the question.’
When the reporter clarified that Chelsea were no longer the hunters and could even become the hunted now, Tuchel replied: ‘Yeah, there’s a part of being the hunter of a top team and there’s a part where you’re hunted. We play Premier League. You have any news for me, or just things that you already know?’
Tuchel then had another run-in with a journalist in the very next question when it was suggested he had been critical of the chances Romelu Lukaku…
