Eoin Morgan insists he ‘can’t fault anything’ England did in T20 World Cup semi-final defeat to New Zealand and says he is ‘incredibly proud to be the leader’ as he hints at continuing his captaincy in Australia

Eoin Morgan insisted he wants another crack at leading England to T20 World Cup glory in Australia next year after his side were stunned in Wednesday’s semi-final defeat by New Zealand.

England looked on course for Sunday’s final after reducing the Kiwis to 107 for four after 15.1 overs in pursuit of 167, only for Jimmy Neesham to help take 23 off the 17th over bowled by Chris Jordan.

Asked whether he wanted to lead England in the T20 World Cup Down Under, Morgan — who will be 36 when the tournament starts — said: ‘I hope to be back.

Neesham revived New Zealand’s hopes and after he departed, Mitchell stepped up to see his side over the line.
