Charlie Dempsey Retains NXT Cup with Returning NQCC Help

On the most recent episode of “WWE NXT,” Charlie Dempsey became the NXT Heritage Cup champion again. This time, however, he did not do it alone. A familiar face, Tavion Heights, a No Quarter Catch Crew (NQCC) member who had not been seen for a while, came back and helped Dempsey keep the Cup in a match versus Je’von Evans.
Having been in Japan’s NOAH N-1 Tournament, Heights returned from abroad for the last rounds of Dempsey’s match. Of course, this was round five of a hard-fought and closely contested battle. The action started quickly as Dempsey tried to pin Evans within the first round.
Time was nearly up, but Evans managed to escape without being pinned, and Dempsey, who performed the takedown, was denied a score. In round two, the situation was turned in Dempsey’s favor for the first time: he pinned Evans and assumed the lead in the contest.
However, Evans got into action in round three, bringing the score to parity.
Dempsey Regains Control
Everything turned in the favor of Team Evans once again as Evans disgraced Dempsey by kicking him out of the ring and rushing in to perform an ill advised dive.
Dempsey, letting the welterweight champion dictate the pace of the match, caught him with a stiff forearm thus regaining control of the match. Mayweather then aimed at pulling Evans into a body scissors submission hold but there was no time as the bell saved Evans.
Dempsey did not stop the hold, which led Cedric Alexander, who was on ringside with Evans, to try to diffuse the situation before it escalated into a fight. The tension continued mounting to the sixth round, where everybody braced for the climax.
Evans tried a quick pin for which Dempsey kicked out and hit him back with a forceful blow. Evans reversed the Dragon Suplex rose up mid-air, and hit Dempsey with a forearm, knocking him down. But then Myles Borne, who was also in NQCC, put Dempsey’s leg onto the rope to save him from being pinned.
