Novak Djokovic has confirmed for the first time that he is unvaccinated against Covid-19 after winning his challenge against the Australian government for revoking his visa entry.

The Serbian was denied entry to Australia last week, having first been handed an ‘exemption’ to compete in the Australian Open this month.

Djokovic flew into Melbourne on the understanding that he would be provided entry to the country on account of testing positive for Covid-19 recently, which Tennis Australia said was grounds for making him exempt from the provision that all players must be vaccinated against coronavirus.

However, upon arrival in Australia Djokovic was detained by border forces and after being withheld overnight, he was informed that his visa was being withdrawn.

Djokovic’s lawyers argued the Serbian was not given enough time to respond to the decision and that he had fully complied with the requests of Tennis Australia.

Much has been made of the Serbian’s supposed anti-vaccination status and Djokovic’s comments since the start of the pandemic certainly indicated that the 34-year-old was against receiving the vaccine.

But the Serbian’s official stance on the matter had remained private until now, with Djokovic being forced in court to reveal that he is unvaccinated.
