Patrick Mouratoglou weighs in on Daniil Medvedev trash-talking Maxime Cressy

Renowned tennis coach Patrick Mouratoglou suggested Maxime Cressy got into Daniil Medvedev’s head with his serve and volley style and that prompted the Russian to shout “this so boring” mid-match. Medvedev, who entered the match as a big favorite, was struggling with Cressy’s serve and volley style but in the end escaped with a tight four-set win 6-2 7-6 (4) 6-7 (4) 7-5.

“« This is so boring »: Classic complain of the baseliners when they play vs Serve and Volley players who frustrate them by refusing to rallye,” Mouratoglou tweeted. A Twitter user was surprised that Medvedev was getting “dragged” by Mouratoglou.

“I do not drag anyone. I love Daniil. I am just pointing out that serve and volley players often get to the head of base liners,” Mouratoglou responded.

Medvedev wanted to get into Cressy’s head

After the match, Medvedev admitted to Eurosport he started trash-talking because he wanted to get into Cressy’s head.

“I was annoyed with the day, let’s call it like this,” Medvedev said. “I’m not really happy about my, let’s call it, mentality today, because again, it was, I mean, I was a little bit harsh with Maxime – who played a really good match – (in a) few moments.

At the same time, I’m not the only player to do it, to try to get into my opponent’s head. “And also, I mean, this can put me off my game, which straightaway when I was screaming something or talking about something or not happy with anything, I was trying to completely refocus straightaway and try to not think about this when I’m playing.

I managed to do it pretty well because before every point I was finally ready to fight, to run, and to think, okay, what do I do to win the next point. And that was the most important”.
