James Wiseman ‘looked good’ in first 5-on-5 Warriors scrimmage

Kerr says Wiseman ‘looked good’ in first 5-on-5 scrimmage originally appeared on NBC Sports Bayarea

Things are looking up for James Wiseman and the Warriors.

The 7-footer took the next step of his recovery process on Tuesday as he participated in a 5-on-5 scrimmage for the first time since getting injured.

Warriors coach Steve Kerr gave a positive update on Wiseman’s status on 95.7 The Game’s “Damon & Ratto”.

“He played 5-on-5 for the first time today,” Kerr said. “Kind of a mix of half-court and full-court. He looked good. I saw him afterward and he said he felt great. The knee is doing really well. Those are all really positive signs.

“With that said, we don’t know what it means long term. It just means he will continue to ramp up his work and hopefully continue to progress where he gets to the point where he’ll be able to play this year. We don’t have a timetable and we don’t really know what’s next beyond tomorrow. We’re just taking it a day at a time.”

For the first time in 10 months, Wiseman was finally able to play 3-on-3 last week.

The No. 2 overall pick in the 2020 NBA Draft last played in a game on April 10, 2021.

In a limited 32 games last season, he averaged 11.5 points and 5.8 rebounds in 21.4 minutes before tearing his meniscus and undergoing a season-ending procedure, followed by another procedure in December that pushed his highly-anticipated comeback even further.

Though Wiseman’s recovery is taking longer than anticipated, the Warriors are confident he will be back on the hardwood in the coming weeks.
