The hotly anticipated January transfer window is fast approaching, with clubs bound to be looking to snap up a bargain or sign a player to strengthen a specific area of their team.
January is often perceived as a quieter period for business compared to the summer window, but that couldn’t be further from the truth.
In fact some of the biggest transfers in Premier League history have happened in January including Fernando Torres’ memorable £50m move from Liverpool to Chelsea in 2011.
Transfers involving Virgil van Dijk (Southampton to Liverpool), Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (Borussia Dortmund to Arsenal), Bruno Fernandes (Sporting Lisbon to Manchester United) and Christian Pulisic (Borussia Dortmund to Chelsea) also took place in January.
This year is expected to be no different with talented RB Leipzig midfielder Amadou Haidara already being linked to a move to Manchester United, while Serbia striker Dusan Vlahovic is being watched by several Premier League clubs including Arsenal.
Meanwhile, it will be the first window for Newcastle’s new owners to make their mark in England’s top flight, with players such as Manchester United duo Anthony Martial and Jesse Lingard, as well as Lille centre-back Sven Botman among the players they have already been linked with.

When does it open?
The January transfer window opens at midnight on Saturday January 1, 2022 in the Premier League.
The window also opens on January 1 for the EFL as well as in Scotland, Germany and Italy, while in Spain and France deals can begin from Monday January 3.

The Premier League’s January transfer window comes to a close on Monday January 31 at 11pm.
