Brian Cage talks about how his career has changed


Before joining other federations and making himself known to the general public, Brian Cage was in WWE development territory, signing with the company in 2008 to be awarded to Florida Championship Wrestling, when NXT didn’t exist yet.

Although he enjoyed FCW, WWE sent him away shortly after, in 2009, and the wrestler was surprised, telling it to the Going Broadway Podcast: “Being released was a shock to me. Then Brian Cage went on to say, “So I’m in the gym and I’m missing a call. I’m like, ‘Oh man. Is that my raise? Am I going on the road? Maybe it’s both.’ So I’m ecstatic and I call them back.

I tell him, “Oh, hey”. He goes, “Oh, hey, Brian. How are you?” I go, “Oh, I’m fine”. Like I’m trying to calm my excitement. And he: ‘Oh, that’s great, that’s great. So … I-I have some bad news.

A difficult part of the job. ‘ And I’m like: ‘What are you talking about?’ Like I still have no idea because I still think it’s, you know, different from a normal situation. So he tells me: ‘Yes, so we’ll have to deal with your release.’

And this is the phone and I’m like [pulls the phone out of his ear to look at it], and I look at it to make sure it’s the right number I’m talking to. And again, I’m not trying to be smart or anything else.
