Naomi Osaka confirms where she plans to start grass season

Four-time Grand Slam champion Naomi Osaka has commited to play Berlin this year, per Reem Abulleil. Osaka, ranked at No. 80 in the world, is set for a Berlin debut as she has no previous appearances on the grass courts of Berlin.
The Berlin event takes place in the second week of the grass season and that’s the tournament where Osaka will likely kick off her grass season.

Last year, former world No. 1 Osaka skipped the entire grass season. After abruptly pulling out of the French Open, Osaka skipped the entire grass season to focus on her mental health.
The Berlin event is set to take place between June 13-19.
Osaka set to return to action
Osaka has played only two tournaments so far in 2022. After giving a walkover in her Melbourne Summer Set 1 semifinal, Osaka made the third round at the Australian Open.
Osaka didn’t make the main draw cut for the Indian Wells Masters but was given a wildcard by the tournament organizers. Osaka made it all the way at the Indian Wells Masters in 2018 after beating Daria Kasatkina in the final.
“To return to the Indian Wells Tennis Garden, the place I won my first big event, it’s special. It was special in 2018 and it will be special again this March,” Osaka said. A few days ago, Osaka admitted she is feeling regrets over not enjoying her Olympic experience in Tokyo.
Osaka, who was hoping to win her first medal in Tokyo, suffered a shock round-of-16 loss to Marketa Vondrousova in the Olympics round-of-16. “So the other day I was reflecting on the Olympics, I don’t know if it was because the Winter Olympics are going on now but something had me reminiscing about the time I had,” Osaka said.
