Alexander Dolgopolov labeled Aryna Sabalenka’s act of going to the net and waiting for a handshake after the match against Elina Svitolina as “disgusting and pathetic” because Svitolina made it clear there would not be a handshake after the match.
Sabalenka defeated Ukraine’s Svitolina 6-4 6-4 at the French Open. When questioned about that scene, Sabalenka defended herself by saying she went to the net “instinctively”. “Oh yeah, that surely was as disgusting as it gets.

After the match, Svitolina was asked whether Sabalenka’s action only inflamed the tension. “Yeah, I think so, unfortunately. I don’t know why she was waiting, because my statements were clear enough about the handshake.
