Boxer Oleksandr Usyk has slammed Russia for their ‘cynical lies’ over the reasoning behind their bloody invasion of Ukraine, though insisting his country will ‘rebuild’ in a passionate and heartfelt post on social media.
Vladamir Putin has repeatedly described the invasion as a ‘special military occupation’, citing the demilitarisation and de-Nazification of Ukraine its purpose, rather than an attempt to occupy the country.
Putin has been widely and severely condemned for his actions however with the UK Government issuing a number of heavy sanctions on Russia.
Chelsea owner Roman Abramovic is one of a number of oligarchs to have his assets frozen, while the British Boxing Board of Control has also banned fighters registered by either of the Russian or Belarusian federations from boxing in the UK.
Usyk himself had been holding talks with Anthony Joshua over a rematch after the Ukrainian stripped him of his IBF, WBA, WBO and IBO world heavyweight titles in a stunning display last year.

Usyk, speaking in a social media post, on Saturday thanked his fellow Ukrainians for their remarkable bravery throughout the conflict, insisting his country will never forget Putin’s actions.
