Jack Wilshere has thanked Mikel Arteta and Edu for giving him the opportunity to train at Arsenal again, but played down speculation that he could be in line for a short-term pay-as-you-play contract with his boyhood club.

‘But it’s also good to be back training with a good group of quality players at a good intensity. It’s what I needed at this point and I’m thankful to Mikel and the whole of the club really for giving me this opportunity.
‘Sometimes, it can be difficult for an old player to come back and train with the team but they’ve all been great.’
Wilshere admits it’s been ‘tough’ being put through his paces in a group of ‘quality’ players after training for so long on his own.
‘It has been tough too. I was training on my own and you can train on your own…
