Vanderbilt men’s team overcame Rice to get the second straight victory

As reported by the Vanderbilt University websited, the Commodores earned their second straight win by beating Rice on Sunday afternoon. Next Vanderbilt will host Florida Atlantic at noon on February 18th and Oklahoma State (11am) and Belmont (3:30pm) on February 19th.
Dores won two of their three doubles matches, picking up the doubles point to take a 1-0 lead in singles. From there, five of six singles games saw Vandy victorious, giving the Commodores a 6-1 win over the Owls. Michael Ross and Nathan Cox took the first doubles match of the afternoon with a 6-4 victory on court 2.
The Owls still clinched a doubles match, with Siim Troost and Paul Wang falling 4-6 on court 1. The point of the doubles came on course 3, where Joubert Klopper and Macsen Sisam outscored Rice 7-5. Sisam carried his momentum from doubles to singles, winning back-to-back sets on 5-court.
Troost also picked up a point in singles, snapping back-to-back tiebreak wins. After losing their first sets, Klopper and Ross both won the second to force a third, where both Commodores emerged victorious on their respective courts.
Marcus Ferreira took an eight-game pro set to clinch another point for the Dores. Head coach Ian Duvenhage explained: “With the exception of a couple of games, we didn’t play very well today. But we played well, and that’s very important for us to remember for the rest of the season.
It’s more important how we compete than how we play Well.”
