Venus Williams asks Novak Djokovic for grass tips after sad end to her Wimbledon

Venus Williams jokingly asked Novak Djokovic for some lessons on how to fall on the grass without hurting herself. Williams, a five-time Wimbledon champion, had an unfortunate end to her campaign at The Championships. Early on in her Wimbledon first-round match against Elina Svitolina, Williams badly slipped on the grass and injured herself.

Williams was able to finish the match but she ended up losing in straight sets to Svitolina. “I need to learn how to fall without hurting myself,” Williams captioned her Instagram Story and tagged Djokovic.

Williams is one of the greatest champions in Wimbledon history as she is a nine-time finalist and a five-time champion at The All England Club.

For this year’s Wimbledon, 43-year-old Williams was granted a main draw wildcard. Williams made a great start against Svitolina, taking an early 2-0 lead. But then, Williams slipped and Svitolina won 6-4 6-3. After the match, Williams gave a detailed reflection on “a shocking injury” she sustained.“Grass is inherently going to be slippery.

You’re going to fall at some point. It was just bad luck for me. I started the match perfectly. I was literally killing it, then I got killed by the grass. It’s not fun right now. I felt like I was in great form coming into this tournament, and great form in the match.

It’s all very shocking at the moment. This is sports. I’m hitting the ball well. Hopefully I can just figure out what’s happening with me and move forward. I think what makes this one hard to process is I’ve had so many injuries.
