Mariah May Discusses Signing with AEW and UK Return for All In Event

AEW freshest recruit, Mariah May, recently spoke to Fightful’s Shirleigh about her captivating journey to AEW and coming back to the UK for All In. May joined AEW because of a storyline with AEW Women’s World Champion “Timeless” Toni Storm.

While talking about her career-altering decision, May said, “The storyline was pitched to me when I was in Japan and knee-deep in my training at STARDOM. I was interested even though it made me feel like a rookie all over again.

What sold me on it was the direct conversation with Tony Khan and his vision for who my character could be. It wasn’t about being a flash in the pan; it was a long-term thing that made sense”.

Mariah May Praises AEW Storytelling

Storytelling has always been an important part of wrestling for May, who cited Mickie James as one of her childhood favourites growing up.

“I was inspired by stories like hers. This might be the best story ever told in wrestling,” she said in response to common criticisms regarding AEW’s narrative depth. All In holds special significance for May as it marks the first time she’s performed back home since signing with AEW.

“It’s wild going back now that things have taken off so much you know? We’re doing shows like Cardiff where I started on the indies but then something so high-profile happens in AEW that everything just feels weird,” she said of her growth and current career trajectory.

Now residing in America, May offered a glimpse into life outside of wrestling. “Living here has been great; I’ve got this lovely house down in Florida with a pool. It’d be nice to think about having celebrations there soon with both belts,” she added coyly.
