‘His Versatility Will Help Bolster Our Depth Heading Into Next

This past July the Hurricanes added a few bottom six players to their lineup in forwards William Carrier, Jack Roslovic and Eric Robinson to improve their overall depth. One player in particular that was brought in for that category once had a little bit of a different pedigree.

Tyson Jost was a top ten pick back in the 2016 NHL draft. The Colorado Avalanche made Jost their 10th overall pick during that years draft after Jost managed to finish 2nd in scoring at the University of North Dakota as a Freshman the year prior, scoring over a point-per-game with 35pts in 33 games played. Now, 8 years after being drafted, Jost joined the Hurricanes on July 1st signing a one-year contract for the league minimum of $775k.

Jost will look to prove he belongs in the NHL for a whole year after splitting time between the NHL and AHL during the 2023-2024 season. Jost played 43 games for the Buffalo Sabres last season where he scored just 3 goals, 3 assists and 6 points. Jost also played in 25 games for the Sabres’ AHL affiliate the Rochester Americans where he recorded 14 points. Josts’ 25 games in the AHL last season was his first stint in the American League since he played 8 games for the Colorado Avalanches’ affiliate the Colorado Eagles back in the 18-19 season.

Jost, who is still only 26 years old, will look to cement himself in the Hurricanes bottom-six this season. Despite having a lot of competition in the bottom-six heading into training camp, one thing that is in Josts’ favor is his ability to fit into different roles, something Hurricanes GM Eric Tulsky spoke of after signing Jost on July 1st.

“Tyson is a reliable forward who can play a variety of roles,” said Tulsky. “His versatility will help bolster our depth heading into next season.”
