WWE Day 1 live results and analysis

New Year’s Day has traditionally been known for college football, but for 2022, the WWE is stepping into the picture with the debut edition of its “Day 1” pay-per-view. Emanating from State Farm Arena in Atlanta, the road to WrestleMania 38 gets an early jump start ahead of the Royal Rumble later this month.
WWE Day 1 was set to be headlined by a Universal championship defense for Roman Reigns against Brock Lesnar, a match months in the making. However, just hours before the show, Reigns announced that he had tested positive for COVID-19 and was off the show.
Simultaneously, WWE announced that Lesnar would be added to a previously scheduled four-way WWE title match, featuring champion Big E, Bobby Lashley, Kevin Owens and Seth Rollins.
Also on Saturday’s Day 1 event, Becky Lynch will defend her Raw women’s championship against Liv Morgan. The Usos and The New Day reignite their long-standing rivalry with the SmackDown tag team titles on the line, while Randy Orton and Matt Riddle defend the Raw tag team championships against The Street Profits, after the latter won a No. 1 contender’s tournament. In nontitle action, Edge faces The Miz, Drew McIntyre faces Madcap Moss.
Follow along throughout the night as Tim Fiorvanti breaks down the action, as it happens.
