France hero Frank Leboeuf believes being benched for Manchester United’s clash against Liverpool and the subsequent thrashing ‘could be the end’ for Paul Pogba at Old Trafford.
Pogba was named on United’s bench for Sunday’s Premier League fixture with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer picking Scott McTominay and Fred in midfield.
Liverpool scored four first-half goals on a haunting afternoon for Manchester United and French World Cup winner Pogba came on for Mason Greenwood at half-time.
Pogba only lasted 15 minutes, however, before he was sent off for a late challenge on Naby Keita, with the Liverpool goalscorer taken off on a stretcher.
Leboeuf believes Pogba’s dismissal came as a result of his ‘frustration’ at being left on the bench and has questioned whether his compatriot has a future at Manchester United after the capitulation.
‘I don’t know what’s going on there,’ Leboeuf told ESPN.
‘Seeing that he didn’t start today for the most important game of the season for Manchester United, it made me think that it could be the end for Paul Pogba.
‘He must be very upset, he was frustrated which is why he was red carded. If Manchester United carry on like this, I think he’s going to go.’
Red Devils legend Paul Scholes slammed Pogba after his second-half red card and suggested he should never play for the club again.
He said: ‘Paul Pogba coming on to the pitch at half time to try to help the team and maybe get a little bit of respectability about it, tries to stand on the ball, tries to show how strong he is in the middle of the pitch… gives the goal away.
‘Then later on he gets sent off with a ridiculous tackle, now you’re 5-0 down with 10 men. You’d have to think, if Ole’s still a manager there, will we see Paul Pogba again in a United shirt?
