3 WWE stars officially become free agents

AJ Lee, Brie Bella, and Nikki Bella are now officially listed as free agents on WWE’s roster page.

The update appeared quietly, without a televised announcement or dramatic storyline twist, but it immediately caught attention. These are not mid-card performers shifting brands. They are three of the most recognizable names of the past two eras of women’s wrestling, and any change to their status matters.

The move does not mean they have been released. Instead, WWE has reclassified them into the free agent section, which allows contracted talent to appear on any brand without being tied to Raw or SmackDown.

It is a designation the company often uses for major stars whose schedules or creative direction differ from weekly roster regulars.

AJ Lee’s placement in this category stands out the most. After returning to WWE in late 2025, she quickly reminded fans why she was once considered one of the most compelling performers in the women’s division.

She captured the Women’s Intercontinental Championship and added another meaningful chapter to her career before dropping the title at WrestleMania 42.

Since then, she has not been featured in a sustained storyline. Being listed as a free agent suggests WWE still values her presence but may be reserving her for select appearances rather than ongoing weekly programs. That kind of flexibility can be strategic, especially when dealing with a performer whose legacy carries significant weight.

Brie Bella and Nikki Bella, known collectively as The Bella Twins, bring a different dynamic. Their names helped define a transformative period for WWE’s women’s division.

Nikki returned to television earlier this year but suffered an injury that forced creative plans to change. Brie remained active in the tag team scene, but neither sister has been a consistent weekly fixture recently.
