Champion breaks silence on future after WWE SmackDown match

Rey Fenix didn’t just defend a title on SmackDown. He changed how that title might be seen going forward.

On the June 12 show in Providence, he retained the AAA Cruiserweight Championship against Axiom. It was sharp, quick, and clean. The kind of match that keeps the pace high and the crowd locked in.

Backstage, Fenix made it simple. He’s not keeping this title tied to one place. He wants to defend it everywhere. RAW, SmackDown, NXT, AAA. It doesn’t matter to him. As long as he’s champion, the belt travels with him.

Fenix won the AAA Cruiserweight title by beating Laredo Kid at Noche de Los Grandes, starting his second reign. That alone was notable. A WWE star holding a major AAA title already blurred the lines between promotions.

If WWE follows through, this creates a moving championship. One that isn’t stuck on a single roster. That opens new matchups, new rivalries, and fresh ways to use talent across brands. It also gives the cruiserweight scene a clear identity again.

Charlotte Flair advanced in the Queen of the Ring tournament after forcing Lyra Valkyria to tap in a chaotic four-way. Michin and B-Fab picked up a tag win. Cody Rhodes and Sami Zayn’s tension boiled over, adding heat to the Gunther title situation.

In the main event, Jey Uso locked in a semifinal spot in King of the Ring. He now faces Je’Von Evans with a place in the final on the line.

If WWE leans into this idea, his title run won’t just be about wins and losses. It’ll be about where the fight happens next.
