Is WWE decided last match for Goldberg

WWE Hall of Famer Bill Goldberg has confirmed his retirement match will be in 2025. Over the weekend, the 57 year old wrestling icon announced this decision while appearing on ESPN’s SEC Nation on Nov. 2, 2024. WWE’s Chief Content Officer Paul ‘Triple H’ Levesque honored his request for one final match, as he promised by WWE’s Goldberg.
Goldberg’s last in ring appearance came at the Elimination Chamber event in 2022 when he challenged Roman Reigns for the Universal Championship without success. But since then he’s been calling for a proper farewell match. Goldberg told Middle hurst that Vince McMahon had guaranteed him a retirement match, and that he was eager to have that final major bout in June 2024.
Goldberg Potential Opponent Gunther
Goldberg’s rumored final opponent is intensifying after a recent encounter with Gunther, the current World Heavyweight Champion. Goldberg was confronted by Gunther earlier this year at the Bad Blood event in October 2024, which he was at with his son. Goldberg responded by taunting the champion, and there was an exchange which was broken up by security. Rumors have swirled that Gunther could be Goldberg’s swan song chosen adversary.
However, during his SEC Nation appearance, Goldberg himself hinted at this possibility by stating that fans might already be familiar with who his final “victim” might be. Known for his dominant in ring style Gunther has expressed interest in facing him, saying he’d be willing to teach the veteran a lesson if the opportunity comes his way.
At least at the moment, the date and venue for Goldberg’s retirement match is not confirmed but the news has definitely created a frenzy in wrestling circles. With Goldberg’s storied career and his trailing match being a potential platform for up-and-coming talent, WWE fans and analysts are speculating on how they will book this high-profile event.
