Manchester United are open to allowing Ralf Rangnick to make signings in the January transfer window but the club will look to offload players first, according to reports.
The 63-year-old is set to take over the reins at Old Trafford on an interim basis until the end of the season, after which he will take up a consultancy role at the club until 2024.
United had been expected to have a quiet January window after spending big on Jadon Sancho, Raphael Varane and Cristiano Ronaldo in the summer, but Rangnick could be allowed to make some tweaks.
According to The Telegraph, new arrivals will be considered but only after some fringe players have been culled, with the squad already far too bloated.
Donny van de Beek will be given a chance to impress Rangnick over the coming weeks, but if he continues to be overlooked then United will give in to his request to leave the club.
The Dutchman has not started a single Premier League match this season, losing his place in the Netherlands’ national team as a result, and is desperate for more regular game time.
Jesse Lingard, likewise, has been on the periphery of the team and, given that he is out of contract in the summer and refusing to sign a new deal, could be sold in January.
Newcastle, Everton, West Ham and AC Milan are all interested in the 28-year-old and United would accept a cut-price fee rather than risk losing him for nothing in seven months’ time.
Dean Henderson will also be considered for a transfer in January, with the shot-stopper very much second choice behind David de Gea and the Spaniard’s fine displays mean Rangnick is not expected to make any changes in that area of the pitch.
